Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and protects against both free radicals and the active forms of oxygen produced during normal metabolism. It has the ability to regenerate vitamin E. A recent study in smokers found that C regenerates vitamin E from its oxidized form. In addition, through its antioxidant capacity, it protects white blood cells from self-oxidation by boosting their glutathione levels.
