Licorice is a herbaceous perennial plant that is found naturally in Macedonia and other parts of Greece, as well as Europe and Asia. Apart from being a medicinal herb, it is also a non-volatile weed, which after its 3rd year forms underground long stems (roots), with a sweet taste and widespread use in medicine. Its main ingredient is glycyrrhizin which is 60 times sweeter than sugar. It also contains steroids (estrogens). Licorice is a valuable drug with anti-rheumatic properties similar to cortisone. Used parts are the root and the underground stem of the plant that is over 3 years old and the collection takes place in autumn.
Keep in a cool and dark place.
Heat water until boiling, add the quantity of the herbal you want. When the temperature starts cool and shrink the mixture and add the sweetener you prefer. Mix and it is ready. It is consumed hot and cold as well.
