Erythritol is a type of carbohydrate called a sugar alcohol, which are water-soluble compounds found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. It is also produced commercially by fermentation, from a simple sugar derived from corn called dextrose. It is used as a zero-calorie sweetener to help replace calories from sugar-containing carbohydrates in packaged foods and beverages.
